Condition

The image is quite accurate, except the porphyry which looks darker than in reality. Very nice polychromy of the clock. Marbles in very good condition; perhaps an old restoration (well done) on the rear right angle of the base . Bronze : nice patina, with very few scratches. The gilt bronzes also in good condition overall, except minor stains and wear, especially on the rear side, and one old restoration to the garland also on the rear side (not distracting). Very nice chasing. The enamel dial with inevitable tiny chips. The mechanism looks complete, but we do not guarantee its working order (with a modern winder). Highly attractive and precious clock, in good condition overall. Ready to be displayed.

Catalogue Note

La borne de cette pendule est directement inspirée d'un dessin de Charles Percier (1764-1838), conservé au musée des Beaux-Arts de Rennes, où figure l'inscription : DOUCE AMITIE SOUS VOTRE EMPIRE / LE TEMPS A FIXE LE BONHEUR / VOUS ETES LA RAISON DU COEUR / L'AMOUR N'EN EST QUE LE DELIRE (fig. 1).
