Condition
The canvas is lined. There are some minor frame abrasions along the vertical edges. Some isolated spots of craquelure which appear stable, and a larger area of craquelure and paint separation around the central figures in the foreground. The surface is slightly dirty and may benefit from a light clean but overall it appears in good, stable condition.
Ultraviolet light inspection reveals some spots of retouching along the upper left hand edge and lower edge. There is a horizontal line of retouching to the framing edge in the upper right hand corner. There are some minor spots of retouching to the faces of the mother and baby in the lower center of the composition and some further minor touches elsewhere.
Held in a gilt frame.
