Oblong folio (310 x 417mm.), 67 ALBUMEN PRINTS, comprising: 49 of Martinique (40: 195 x 250mm., and 9: 120 x 160mm., or the reverse), 6 of French Guiana (195 x 260mm., or the reverse), and 12 of Santander (100 x 150mm., or the reverse), each neatly titled in ink on the mount, contemporary brown half morocco, fabric boards, upper cover initialled "M.G." [Marthe Gallieni, see provenance] in gilt, spine with raised bands titled in gilt, red edges, light scattered spotting, a few mounts partly detached, extremities rubbed and slightly bumped

Marthe Gallieni (initials on upper cover), wife of Captain (later General) Joseph Gallieni (1849-1916) colonial administrator, who was governor of Martinique from 1883 to 1886

Catalogue Note
RARE photographs of Martinique and French Guiana, compiled by Marthe Gallieni, whose husband was the governor of Martinique from 1883 to 1886 (see provenance). The images include views of Fort de France, the harbour, principal buildings, religious processions, topographical views, and images of the governor's residence with governor Gallieni and his wife with baby son, and another of the Gallienis with friends.
