Catalogue Note

One of the most popular and influential travel books of the seventeenth century. Della Valle left Venice in 1614 on a pilgrimage to Palestine, travelling to Cyprus, Turkey, Egypt, the Holy Land, Syria, Persia and finally India before returning to Rome in 1626.

Volume 1 in this set, which is a second edition, contains a new life of the author.
