Catalogue Note
A SPLENDID COPY IN A FINE BINDING SHOWING ARABIA AND THE GULF. Escales d'Asie describes a sailing voyage round the coast of Arabia. Beginning in Suez the author travelled down the Red Sea, to Aden, then Muscat and up the Persia Gulf to Basra. In his peregrinations he appears to be following in the footsteps of the artist, Charles Fouqueray, whose watercolours illustrate this work. Fouqueray (1869-1956), was for many years the official artist to the French navy and travelled in Arabia some twenty five years before the publication of this book - many of the illustrations are dated 1921.
