Catalogue Note

A LARGE AND IMPORTANT COLLECTION OF PORTRAITS, MOSTLY DRAWN FROM LIFE AND MANY SIGNED BY THE SITTER. The majority of the subjects were drawn in Greece, with a few made in Beirut, Cyprus, and Alexandria. They include a large number of religious figures, military officers, soldiers, and official. The sitters include Theodoros Kolokotronis, Kyriakos Mavromichalis, Kostas Botsaris, Stavros Grivas and Georgios Kountouriotis, Selim Effendi, Hassan Pasha of Rhodes, "Le Cadi de Larnaca" Cyprus, Assad Pasha (in Beirut), and Mehmet Ali (Alexandria).
