Catalogue Note
THE ALBUM OF PHOTOGRAPHS WAS COMPILED AND OWNED BY THE ARTIST GUILIO BLAAS WHO TOOK PART IN THE EXPEDITION and whose paintings, taken on the spot, are reproduced in the text volumes. It is inscribed by him on the endleaf, where he records in some detail the route, and he also identifies all the images and dates them. The views and scenes include Canton, Ningpo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macao, Niagara, Java, Bombay, Ceylon, Penang and Japan.
