Description

  • A collection 18 watercolours attributed to Charles Emilius Gold. [most c.1832-1837], comprising:
17 extracted from an old album and in modern window frame mounts (images vary, c.90 x 185mm. to 150 x 270mm.), either identified in the image or with modern notes of identification taken from the original album, and one on an old mount (image 130 x 318mm.), together in a modern cloth box

The captions of those in modern mounts are: "A Wigwam S[outh] A[merica]"; "Lighthouse Demarara S.A."; "Buck Indian S.A."; "Port of Spain Trinidad from Gulf of Patria" [dated 1836]; "Diamond Rock Martinique"; "Fort St Anns Barbadoes"; "Indian Post Canje River S.A. 100 miles in the interior" [1832]; "S.A."; "Bermuda" [1837]; "Family of Slaves Barbadoes"; "Castres St Lucia" [1835]; "Tampion battery, Governor's House & Mount Fortune St Lucia" [1837]; "The Valley of [?] Dominica" [1836]; "Kingstown St Vincent" [1837]; "[Fyal Azore Islands 1862]"; [?St Lucia]; [indecipherable]. The other watercolour is captioned "View of Trinidad and the Paria Mountains... sketched from H.M.S. Atholl by C.E.G." Charles Emilius Gold was stationed in British Guiana and the West Indies from 1830 until 1837.
