Condition

Overall in very good condition. The shade with approximately 25-30 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout. Many of these hairlines are very small and minor, and all appear stable. The "Old English" (or "Four Virtues") base with particular fine details to the casting, displaying an exceptionally rich green and russet brown patina. The bronze surfaces with very light surface wear and rubbing consistent with gentle handling. All four sockets and paddle switches appear original and undisturbed. The heat cap and upper wheel appear to be replaced. The threaded pin above the wheel and riser is of insufficient length to reach the heat cap; thus the heat cap presently sits atop the shade and does not securely thread onto the pin. (If desired a longer threaded pin could be easily replaced.). A superb example of this rare complex model, displaying a highly saturated and unusual glass selection. The large shields and roundels are articulated in vigorously mottled dichroic glass, heightening the visual interest and drama of the shade. The background glass shows an incredible color transition, starting at the upper register from brilliant aqua to turquoise to lavender along the lower register. When viewed firsthand the coloration of the shade is more nuanced than seen in the catalogue illustrations, which does not fully capture the brilliance and luminosity of the glass.
