well rendered with its legs tucked underneath its body, its head detailed with curious eyes, the attractive stone of an even white colour, finely polished to a soft glow

Condition

The carving is pierced through to the back with an aperture; otherwise, in overall good condition with occasional minute nicks to the surface, consistent with age.

Catalogue Note

Carefully modelled in the round and finished to a lustrous sheen from a high-quality stone, this carving is notable for its exquisite detailing that captures the strength and tranquillity of the horse despite its small size. See two jade horse sculptures sold in our London rooms, the first, 12th December 1989, lot 165, and the second, 14th November 2001, lot 49; and two further examples sold in these rooms, 8th October 2010, lot 2798, and 5th November 1996, lot 1058.
