Description
- Ecole Française du XIXe siècle
- Un cacaotès
- Huile sur toile
- 45,5 x 37,5 cm ; 18 by 14 3/4 in
Condition
The canvas is unlined. There is a pattern of craquelure which appears to be lifting slightly in places, notably in the vegetation below the parrot’s beak.
There is a small spot of paint flaking on the branch to the left of the parrot’s feet.
There is a light dent in the canvas just above the center of the right edge.
Ultraviolet light reveals an even and quite opaque varnish ; the only clear retouching appears to be in the foliage to the left of parrot’s body, and a small repair in the foliage to the left above the branch.
The painting could benefit from a surface clean.
Presented in a simple wood frame.
The colours are darker and more yellow in reality than in the catalogue illustration.
