The canvas is unlined. There is a pattern of hairline craquelure overall which is slightly raised (as visible in the catalogue illustration). There are a couple of very small spots of paint flaking in the water to the right associated with craquelure. Ultraviolet light reveals some very minor signs of retouching, notably just above the horizon near the left edge and a few small spots in the upper left of the sky. The painting is otherwise in good condition. Presented in a decorative gilt frame with acanthus leaf ornaments.

Dans ce tableau, on aperçoit sur la hauteur de la colline le castel Sant'Elmo qui domine les alentours de Naples ainsi que la chartreuse San Martino.
Un petit tableau de composition très proche, par Antonie-Sminck Pitloo, a été présenté en 2004 à l'exposition Pitloo, Luci e colori del paesaggio napoletano au musée Pignatelli de Naples et est reproduit à la page 142 du catalogue.
