Condition
The canvas is unlined with two small patches on the reverse , one of them addressing a partial repair in the background to the left of the figure which is visible on the printed catalogue.
Ultraviolet light reveals retouches around this, and to a smaller repair on the lower left. Other scattered strokes are visible along the upper edge. The old varnish fluoresces opaquely.
There is a pattern of small craquelure and small spots of paint flaking.
The painting would benefit from cleaning and restoration.
Presented in a gilt Empire-style frame with some ornament losses.
