Condition

The canvas is unlined. There is a very faint pattern of craquelure Under ultraviolet light there is uneven fluorescence likely caused by the old varnish layers rather than retouchings, making the surface difficult to read. A few minor spots of retouching are clearly visible notably towards the ceiling in the upper left. The colours are slightly deeper in the reality Presented in a decorative gilt frame

Catalogue Note

Peintre d'origine russe et actif à Paris dans le dernier quart du XIXe siècle, Lucien Przepiorski exécuta plusieurs vues des salles du Louvre (voir notamment le lot 138). Le Musée conserve d'ailleurs une vue du Salon Carré par l'artiste datée de 1875.
