Condition
The canvas is unlined, and is slightly undulated in the upper-left corner.
There are scattered small spots of paint flaking, notably relating to frame rubbing along the left edge (visible in the catalogue illustration). There are some localised minor lines of hairline craquelure, which are not visually distracting.
Under ultraviolet light the old residual varnish layers fluoresce quite unevenly and opaquely, making the surface difficult to read; there are some small spots of fluorescence notably in the figure’s right cheek and above her right shoulder, which do not appear to correspond to retouching.
The surface is quite dirty and the painting could benefit from a surface clean, however the painting is otherwise in good overall condition.
Presented in a decorative gilt frame.
