The ‘vente Barye’ wax sale is visible on the reverse of the stretcher. The canvas has been relined. Under ultraviolet light the residual varnish fluoresces opaquely in some areas, and to a lesser extent in the sky, suggesting that the work has been selectively cleaned. Some very minor scattered spots of retouching are visible primarily in three of the corners and in the dark pigments to the right of the center. Apart from some minor craquelure, primarily in the sky, the painting is otherwise in good overall condition and ready to hang. Presented in a decorative gilt frame
