first edition, this copy with the rare appendix which gives particular instructions for the tying of flies. For instance the "black midge" calls for the down of a mole and grey silk, another for the down of a water mouse. "...He escapes from the category of manual makers, and takes rank as one of the original writers on the sport." (Westwood).
