Catalogue Note

First edition, first issue. The cancel title of the second issue  was altered to  "1683/4" presumably to protect Boyle's claims of priority in his discoveries. One of Boyle's most important medical works, this first analysis of blood "may be considered the first scientific study in physiological chemistry, exhibiting methods which have become universally adopted" (Garrison & Morton).
