Catalogue Note

First edition, with "Successe" on the title-page and 39 lines on page 6. The still unidentified author of this work describes the expedition under General Venables and Admiral Penn to the Spanish West Indies instigated by Cromwell and known as the "Western Design." The principal object was the taking of Hispaniola, seat of Spanish power in the Caribbean. Frustrated in this, the expedition redeemed itself by the taking of the then sparsely settled Jamaica.
