Catalogue Note
First edition. An angling book by the parlimentarian army officer Robert Venables (1612–1687), with a epistle by Izaak Walton. The engraved vignettes of fish were also used in Walton's Compleat Angler (1653). Walton explains in his address to the author that the "hight of Judgement and Reason, which you have manifested in this (as I may call it) Epitome of Angling" has surpassed all other books on the subject. The ten chapters of the book offer guidance on making tackle, on artificial flies, all sorts of baits, the best times and seasons for angling and other subjects.
