8vo (6 1/2 x 4 1/8 in.; 165 x 105 mm).  Engraved frontispiece portrait of Milton by Dolle; title trifle soiled, occasional minor soiling.  Red straight-grain morocco spine gilt- and blind-stamped in five compartments, covers ruled in blind and gilt, edges gilt; some minor rubbing.

Catalogue Note

Second edition. The number of books has been extended from ten to twelve by dividing Books VII and X into two each. According to Milton's nephew, Edward Phillips, these changes were made at Milton's direction and were among the last literary labors undertaken by him.
