Catalogue Note
first edition. The first extensive use of Greek type in an English book, used for the long passage from St. John of Damascus , included Gardiner says, “bycause some children learne greake in this tyme, it may serve them for a lesson, wherewithe to occupie their tender wittes . . .” At the end the printer apologizes for a makeshift Greek iota, “quandoque destituti fuimus” (“because we were out of it”).
