Two volumes in one, 4to (194 x 130 mm). Both title-pages with engraved borders; first title-page rubbed, a little soiled, with edge chipping, hole in G2 of second title. Modern speckled gilt calf to style.

Catalogue Note

first edition. Florio's Firste Fruites, a manual for learning Italian, had been published in 1578. These Second Frutes are popular phrases and are more recreational than didactic and include riding, fencing, women and romance. One sonnet, "Phaeton to his friend Florio" has been attributed to Shakespeare.
