Description

8vo (130 x 90 mm). Black letter, title within ornamental woodcut border; fore-edge frayed, splits closed in A5 and A8, corner torn from I3 without loss of text, contemporary manuscript underscoring, and scribbling on colophon, lacks last leaf (blank?), a few tiny wormholes, some leaves stained. Eighteenth-century blind-tooled calf; rubbed.

Catalogue Note
"A popular sensible treatise on healthful living, with sound and practical advice on the recognition of the commoner symptoms of disease, as well as what to do about them" (Hunt). The 1541 edition was the first to contain Elyot's preface, replacing the dedication to Cromwell.
