Condition
The two bronze groups in very good condition overall with a dark green patina, gold paint and gilt bronze elements cast separately (Apollo’s bow and quiver, Venus’ flowers, the two Cupids’ arrows). Some minor wear to the patina and the gilding, some minor surface dirt consistent with age and handling. The Apollo group is placed on a painted wooden plinth imitating bronze. The two groups cast in several elements very meticulously assembled.
Very fine chiselling and hammering of the surface, especially in the hair, the feather of the rooster, the flowers and the terraces. Very decorative pieces in overall good condition. The bronzes are illustrated in Richarme/Poletti’s monography on Carpeaux.

Catalogue Note
