Condition

Some minor and occasional glaze losses overall, mostly to the rim edges. There is an approximate 1/4-inch rim chip and several fine haircracks running from the side of the rim.

A sweetmeat dish of the same form, painted with ships and figures, is illustrated in Frank Britton, English Delftware in the Bristol Collection, p. 138, cat. no. 9.43, where the author attributes it to 'probably Bristol'. Another example, similarly painted with flower designs, is illustrated in Amanda E. Lange, Delftware at the Historic Deerfield, 1600-1800, p. 98, cat. no. 55, where the author attributes it to 'probably London or Bristol'. A similar example from the Collection of the late Joseph V. Vizcarra was sold at Sotheby Parke Bernet, April 13, 1980, lot 463.
