Catalogue Note
Reverend John Moorhead served the Arlington Street Church from 1729 to his death in 1773. Ā Arlington Street Church was the second Presbyterian congregation in Boston, Massachusetts. A small group of Scotch-Irish Presbyterians came to Boston and were rejected by Puritans on religious grounds and concerns that the Presbyterians would compete with scarce resources in the area. They set up church in a barn where Moorhead was made minister. The church thrived -growing to 250 prosperous members. Many of these members commissioned and donated silver to the church by silversmiths like John Hurd and Paul Revere. Silver from the Arlington Street Church is offered in lot 233.
