Condition

There are typical minor glaze chips and abrasions to the rim and some scratching to the glaze overall. Otherwise in generally good condition.

A similar example is illustrated in Michael Archer, Delftware, The Tin-glazed Earthenware of the British Isles, p. 398, cat. no. K. 15, where the author attributes the tile to London, 'probably Lambeth High Street, Abigail Griffith before or during her partnership with Thomas Morgan'. A similar pill slab formerly in the Collection of Dr. and Mrs. Warren Baker was sold at Sotheby Parke Bernet, New York, October 15, 1982, lot 27; another from the Rous Lench Collection was sold at Sotheby's London, July 1, 1986, lot 63.
