Description

  • With frame 14 in. by 18 1/4 in.
Depicting scenes from the Book of Esther, worked in a very fine tent stitch, initialed SW top left, reverse with printed label inscribed Oak Room/Mrs. M. Taylor/Killingworth/Locust Valley/Long Island, now in a later simulated tortoiseshell frame.

Condition

Please note that this needlework has not been examined out of frame. Blue and greens have been retained fairly well, while the dark browns have partially oxidized. Tent stitch is very small and of a high quality. Some spot stains and areas of loss (largest being a 1 1/2 inch loss to gallows). Tortoiseshell frame with some small losses and age cracks. Very fine tent stitch.
