Description

  • porcelain
  • Height 4 3/4 in.
Painted with a colorful 'crack'd ice' patterned ground.

Provenance

Sotheby Parke Bernet, Inc., New York, Property of Mr. and Mrs. Bertram Rowland, Buckingham, Pennsylvania, March 25, 1977, lot 19.

Condition

The teapot has a firing-related forking crack encircling the base, visible on the interior of the pot but not apparent on the exterior; minor chip to the flange; tip of the spout restored. Half of the cover is restored and it is completely overpainted; it is possible that it is an 18th century cover that has been painted as a replacement cover to match the pot.
