Condition
The cover is extensively oversprayed and repainted; it is possible that the cover is a made up replacement. The teapot has a restored crack running down from the rim through the middle of one side extending down to and partly across the base.

Catalogue Note
A 'Jacobite' teapot and cover of similar form and molding, but, with slightly different decoration, is illustrated in Diana Edwards and Rodney Hampson, White Salt-glazed Stoneware of the British Isles, p. 124, color plate 94. A similar example from the Shand Kydd Collection was sold at Sotheby's, London, November 25, 1997, lot 222; and another was sold at Sotheby's, London, February 21, 1989, lot 339.
