  • Length 3 7/8 in.
One side engraved with a heart, skull and emblems of the Passion, the other with inscription "Pray for the sovle [sic] of John Iernegan Esqvie who died the 5th Dec/Emb 1636" on black enamel ground, apparently unmarked.

Catalogue Note

John Jernegan (1598-1636) was the son of Henry Jernegan, Bart., of Cossey, Norfolk, and Elizabeth Throckmorton, and the grandson of Sir Henry Jerningham (alt. spelling), Captain of the Guard to Queen Mary. John Jernegan married in 1619 Mary, daughter of Sir Francis Moore, Bart., of Fawley, Berks. His son, Henry, 2nd Bart., succeeded to an estate considerably damaged by the Civil War.
