Catalogue Note
This rare pair of chairs can be attributed to John Elliott, Sr. (1713-1793) base on a chair illustrated in William MacPherson Hornor, Jr., Blue Book: Philadelphia Furniture, (Washington, DC: Highland House Pub., 1977), pl. 68 that was original made for Charles Norris for £8-2-0. A nearly identical chair is also illustrated by Hornor, pl. 26 that descended in the Elliott family.
