Condition

Has been broken into three pieces in the back and riveted back; the break only shows as an approximate 2-inch haircrack on the front. Some very minor and occasional glaze losses or chipping. There is an additional fine and short haircrack running from the rim edge on the front.

Catalogue Note

A blue and white example similarly molded with a female mask and a satyr is illustrated in Michael Archer, Delftware in the Fitzwilliam Museum, p. 312, cat. no. I. 16, where the author mentions that at least six different molds were used for wall pockets of this form.
