Condition

Has been re-lined and re-stretched – restorations appear to be older. In a molded frame with English construction. Quite a bit of in-paint and restoration along the bottom where the dogs are and on the lower half of the horse. Left and right in the background. In black frame with gilt spandrel liner.

Catalogue Note

THomas Spencer (1700-1753) was influenced by and a pupil of James Seymour (1702-1752), one of the most important early British sporting artists. Spencer, with Seymour, produced a series of racehorse portraits published by Thomas Butler.
