Description

  • Gold, sapphire, diamonds
  • height 4.3cm, 1 5/8 in.
formed as an openwork shield centring an Imperial eagle set with an oval-cut sapphire below dates 1613 and 1913 flanking a larger circular-cut sapphire, surmounted by a Cap of Monomakh set with a circular-cut diamond, later pin, scratched inventory number 3679

Condition

Excellent condition. The pin apparently replaced.

A close variant of the design for this brooch appears in the Holmström design books, with tiny amethysts instead of the larger diamond in the Cap of Monomakh and with an amethyst drop (please see A. K. Snowman, Fabergé: Lost and Found, New York, 1993, p. 126.)
