Description
- Konstantin Makovsky
- Portrait of a Girl Wearing a Cap
- signed twice in Latin l.l. and m.l.
- oil on panel
- 41 by 32.5cm, 16 1/4 by 12 3/4 in.
Condition
Structural Condition
The artist's panel is ensuring a stable structural support.
Paint Surface
The paint surface has a relatively uneven varnish layer.
There are a few minor paint losses on the edges of the composition including in the extreme
upper left corner, and a further small paint loss within the black ribbon in the sitter's hair.
There is intermittent historic frame abrasion on the extreme edges of the composition.
Inspection under ultra-violet light shows a few tiny retouchings on the sitter's chest and neck,
and a few further tiny retouchings within the the background. Inspection under ultra-violet
light also shows areas of fluorescence within the sitter's face. These are attributable to the
artist's materials and techniques.
Summary
The painting would therefore appear to be in very good and stable condition and would
benefit from cleaning, restoration and revarnishing, including the infilling and retouching of any
minor paint losses.
