Description

  • Evgeny Chubarov
  • Untitled
  • incised with the artist's signature in Latin and the date 1992 l.r.; further twice signed in Cyrillic and twice dated on the reverse
  • oil on canvas
  • 145 by 205cm, 57 by 80 3/4 in.

Provenance

A gift from the artist to the present owner in 1992

Condition

Structural Condition The canvas is unlined and is securely attached to the artist's original keyed wooden stretcher. This is ensuring a relatively even and stable structural support. The reverse of the canvas and the stretcher are inscribed by the artist. Paint Surface The paint surface has the artist's original unvarnished appearance. There are scattered areas within the green and red impasto where previous wrapping material appears to have disturbed the paint layer. These areas are now stable. The paint surface appears tacky in several areas including a large area of red impasto in the lower right quadrant of the composition. It should be noted that the painting should be transported in a T-frame and wrapping material should not touch the paint surface. Summary The painting would therefore appear to be in good and stable condition but it should be noted that previous wrapping material has irreversibly affected the paint layer in several areas. Due to the busy nature of the paint surface these areas are not easily identifiable.
