Condition
Original canvas on its original stretcher. There is a layer of surface dirt and spots of dirt throughout, most notably in the lower right part of the composition. The varnish layer has discoloured unevenly. The canvas is buckling very slightly at each corner and there is a small indent below the washing line left of centre. There is a small damage to the canvas with some associated paint loss in the lower left corner below the signature. Some cracks are visible in the sky in the upper right corner, in the clouds above is an area of restoration visible to the naked eye. On the reverse is a small canvas repair patch which corresponds to the area of restoration on the front. Inspection under UV light reveals restoration to sky in the upper right corner as well as a few other scattered areas of minor restoration. Held in a decorative frame with plaster moulding and a cream fabric slip. Unexamined out of frame.
