- Landscape with Three Boats
- signed in Latin l.r.
- oil on canvas
- 72 by 89.5cm, 28 1/4 by 35 1/4 in.
Condition
Original canvas on its original stretcher. There are light frame abrasions in places with some associated paint loss. A few small scattered paint chips are visible in the sky in the upper right corner and in the top edge to the left of the masts. There is paint shrinkage in places, most notably in the three boats and there are a few fine cracks in the white impasto of the clouds. There is a layer of surface dirt with scattered spots of dirt throughout and the varnish layer has discoloured. Inspection under UV light reveals restoration to an area of paint loss in the rigging of the front mast of the boat in the foreground, the discoloured varnish layer prevents a more conclusive analysis. Held in a simple painted wooden frame. Unexamined out of frame.
