the jade pebble finely worked as a boy depicted joyfully clambering on a large double-gourd with one hand grasping the gnarled leafy branch bearing the gourd on the reverse, the lower body of the gourd detailed with a bat rendered with large wings next to a low-relief four-character inscription reading fulu chengxiang ('Happiness and prosperity'), the stone of a white colour with small areas of russet skin skilfully rendered to accent the leaves

Condition

The carving is in overall good condition with just minute bruises and nicks to the edges and fragile extremities. There is a small chip to the edge of the large leaf measuring approx. 0.5 cm.
