Catalogue Note

A characteristically funky velvet suit worn by Sly Stone on the day of his wedding. On June 5th, 1974, the 21,000 fans in attendance at Sly and the Family Stone's concert at Madison Square Garden were treated to a surprise opening act: a wedding ceremony between Sly Stone and his girlfriend Kathy Silva officiated by Soul Train's Don Cornelius. Andy Warhol, and Diane Von Furstenberg were among the guests in attendance, and a reception was held after the concert at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. George W. S. Trost Chronicled the event for an issue of The New Yorker, dubbing the event "The Biggest Event of this Year."
