signé sur chaque face du cadran, le cadran rectangulaire à double face avec indications du temps en anglais sur l’avers (Very dry, Settl’d Frost, Tempest etc), et indications en français sur le revers (Fort sec, Pluye, Gélée Aigue etc) ; la boîte d’échelles et la monture gravaient de feuilles et de rinceaux symétriquement disposé ; le tube (remplacé) contenu dans une colonne corinthienne en noyer (postérieure) avec base rectangulaire à quatre pieds

Condition

The illustration is accurate, good overall condition despite the inevitable dents, scratches and marks due to the age and use. As said, the tube has been replaced and the column is of later date. A very few traces of old and inactive woodworms, a minor restoration on each leg, a few small losses to the carving of the capital. Catalogue Note

Horloger renommé, Daniel Quare (1649-1724) fut également un fabricant pionnier du baromètre. En 1695, il obtient un brevet pour un ‘baromètre portable’ et semble avoir apporté plusieurs améliorations à l’instrument (cf. Nicolas Goodison,  English Barometers, 16680-1860, 2e édition Woodbridge 1977, 206-221).
