The illustration is accurate, good overall condition despite the inevitable dents, scratches and marks due to the age and use. The back of the secreter is mahogany veneered with ormolu mounts, a few minor shrinkage scratches, especially a vertical one on the central panel of the upper part, a few minor losses to the veneer, three drawers are difficult to open, the gilding is in good condition except on the feet where it is rubbed (visible on the illustration) The cylinder door is difficult to open, the leather top are probably period with some shrinkage cracks and a big stain on the front one. Impressive model. Please note that this condition report was made on August 31th 2016 inside Robert de Balkany's hôtel rue de Varenne; this lot will be shipped to Sotheby's galleries before the exhibit and the sale.
