The painting sits on its original canvas. It is very dirty and would benefit from a cleaning.
There is a tear in the upper right, in the sky. Repaints are visible in the sky on the left. Thin craquelures are visible on the surface of the composition.
Under UV light, a small area fluoresced in the upper left.

Cette oeuvre de Denis-Auguste-Marie Raffet, célèbre illustrateur de la Révolution française et de l'histoire de Napoléon Bonaparte, est à rapprocher du tableau de Jean-Baptiste Mauzaisse, La bataille de Fleurus, 26 juin 1794 de 1835 conservé dans la Galerie des Batailles du château de Versailles. Les Français remportèrent la bataille de Fleurus le 26 juin 1794 contre les forces coalisées européennes du Royaume-Uni, d'Autriche et de Hanovre.
