chaque bacchante tenant, sur un plateau ou un tambourin, un vase orné d'une frise bacchique d'où s'échappent trois bras de lumière centrés d'un thyrse enflammé autour duquel s'enroule un serpent, reposant sur un socle circulaire en marbre blanc orné de perles et tors de laurier, terminé par un contre-socle en marbre rouge

Condition
The illustration is accurate, good overall condition despite the inevitable dents, scratches and marks due to the age and use.
A small restoration to an arm of light the central stain was originally fitted with stains which are now missing.

La frise des vases soutenus par les bacchantes reproduit en partie un relief en cire "Le Cerceau" exécuté par Antoine-François Gérard (1760-1843) et conservé aujourd'hui au Louvre avec son pendant "Le Coupe-Tête" : Gérard s'était lui-même inspiré de dessins de Jean-Guillaume Moitte (Clodion, catalogue d'exposition, Paris, 1992, pp.386-391, n°85-88).
