Condition

The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This pair of paintings has been carefully restored and should be hung in its current state. Both canvases have recent Italian linings applied with a non-wax adhesive. The surfaces are still nicely textured. In the composition of peasants gathered under a stone arch, the sky has received fairly numerous retouches addressing some thinness above and below the arch. The composition of peasants dancing and playing music along a country road shows very few retouches in the sky, but there are a few in the upper right. There are a few tiny retouches here and there in the darkest colors of both compositions. Both paintings are very healthy throughout their figure groups and landscapes, and the condition of both pictures is extremely good.
