Description

the deep rounded sides supported on a low square-cut foot, rising to a sharp flared rim with a straight narrow outer edge, the smoothly polished stone of spinach-green colour figured with black specks and streaks of lighter grey, wood stand

Condition

The bowl is in overall good condition. There are minute nicks to rim and foot, with an area of approx. 2.5 cm polished down to conceal an earlier neck. There is also pitting to the stone. The catalogue illustration is slightly brighter than the actual colour of the stone.

Catalogue Note

Two spinach-green jade bowls of this large size were sold in our London rooms, the first, 15th November 1965, lot 154, and the second, 29th June 1976, lot 122; another was sold twice in our New York rooms, 21st May 1971, lot 403, and 10th November 1979, lot 299; and a slightly larger pair was sold at Christie’s New York, 2nd December 1989, lot 236, and again in their Hong Kong rooms, 30th May 2012, lot 4315.
