Condition

This print, mounted to thin Strathmore board, is in generally very good to excellent condition. There are several tiny, clustered surface abrasions in the upper center of the print that appear to break the emulsion. The surface of the print is very softly rippled, mostly at the right edge. When examined in raking light, the following are visible: several thin linear scratches, mostly in the upper half of the print, some of which appear to break the emulsion, and a few scattered tiny deposits, likely original retouching. The lower right corner is gently bumped. On the reverse of the mount are the following: several tape remnants along the left, right, and upper edges on the reverse of the mount; and a Limited Image Photographic Art Gallery, Chicago, label, with '1229' written in an unidentified hand in ink. Karen Haas's and Rebecca Senf's book, 'Ansel Adams in the Lane Collection,' publishes the most comprehensive list to date of the studio stamps and labels Adams used throughout his career. Our dating of this print is based upon the authors' assessment of the use dates of stamps 7 and 8: 1963 through 1970.
