Description

  • Henri Cartier-Bresson
  • On the Banks of the Marne, France
  • Gelatin silver print
signed in ink and blindstamped in the margin, 1938, printed later (Cartier-Bresson: Photographer, pl. 145)

Condition

This print is in generally very good to excellent condition. In raking light, the following are visible: scattered deposits of original retouching, which appear to have discolored slightly; and a one-inch sharp crease near the lower edge of the image, which appears to break the emulsion. The print is slightly rippled and curling at the left and right margin edges; while the rippling primarily affects the margins, it does intrude upon the image in a few places. The margin edges and corners are slightly bumped and rubbed.
